FIRST TIME BEING A MODEL
If you are one of my followers on Instagram, you would've known that time when I was involved in the 'Runway Fashion Show' on 1st December 2017. It was truly a challenging experience and there were full of life-learning lessons to be absorbed. Obstacles that occurred mostly during rehearsals, the pain during rehearsals. I would say it was all the process!

It was truly a challenging experience and there were full of life-learning lessons to be absorbed. Obstacles that occurred mostly during rehearsals, the pain during rehearsals. I would say it was all the process!
How did I start?
Firstly, I was invited by one of my seniors in NAFA to join a fashion show. On 23rd November 2017, I was required to come to the venue located at The Hive Kallang to do the first costume fitting with the designer. She brought three beautiful dresses for me to try on. But sadly, I had to hardly accept the fact that I couldn't fit into any of the dresses because my bust was slightly bigger than models in common. Well sadly, I was there with two other models who could just easily fit into the dresses. I was quite sad and lost motivation, however, I had to remind myself that I have to be grateful for my asset, right? HAHAHA. I actually told myself that it was the last day, but luckily, Amelia-the manager was in charge-shifted me to another fashion designer.
My story didn't end there, but I still had to attend two rehearsals: 25th November 2017 (Catwalk Rehearsal) and 29th November 2017 (Dry Run). For a fashion show, I guess it was kinda short where each rehearsal that only allows two hours for practicing (how to do catwalk), choreography (the formation), and things to be done on the show day which fell on 1st December 2017!

A Painful Catwalk PracticeLearning how to walk on a catwalk for a fashion runway wasn't that easy. What challenged me was because I had to stand on the heels, walk straightly, chin-up, and to look natural. Perhaps, it was mainly because I wasn't used to wearing high heels. There were exactly 40 models who mostly just started their careers as models. Honestly, during rehearsals, I had the worst walk ever. The worst thing was when I could see myself embarrassed once the choreographer showed me as a bad example of how to walk on a catwalk. However, I didn't stop there. Exactly five days before the show was the most precious days I've ever had.
I'm trying to make you imagine how intense I attempted. I could recall forcing myself to walk with my black-legendary-heels-that was provided by my fashion designer. I walked with it every night for 2-3 hours. Have you ever watched Victoria's Secret fashion shows on Youtube while practice walking in your living room? Well, that was what I did within 5 nights. I could feel the skin on my heels was slowly peeled. Anyways, I believe that every good result requires practices.
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."This would be best describe what motivated me during my practices. I knew that if I chose to stop, I wouldn't be able to give the best walk on the runway. I was trusted by the manager and fashion designer so I wouldn't take this opportunity for granted. This might seem like 'Karate Kid' movie, but I was dying just to ensure that I didn't look stupid on my first runway. Lol.

SHOW DAY!
1st December 2017, I reached the Hive at 11 AM and was called to do makeup at 2 pm. As the runway was sponsored by Mary Kay Singapore, they provided some makeup artists to do our makeup based on the paper provided for every model. As I entered the room, I was so convinced by a pretty lady that was sitting 11 o'clock from me. Finally, we introduced each other and Jesslyn was the one who did my makeup and the result was damn good! She was too kind and she never stops complimenting me. We felt connected and starting then, we became friends.
After makeup, I went to the Japanese hairstylist and changed the costumes to get ready for the show. Shockingly, Joanna-the talented fashion designer-informed me to be the very first model who would come out to open the show! Felt so nervous at first but since I liked my edgy look, I felt so confident and ready to show off!

Shockingly, Joanna-the talented fashion designer-informed me to be the very first model who would come out to open the show! Felt so nervous at first but since I liked my edgy look, I felt so confident and ready to show off!
I was wearing black one-piece like a swimsuit, abstract-designed shorts, with a the-same-designed hoodie. Had a short talk with Joanna, and she explained how she had to ask a stranger to define the arts. And what he did was he drew an abstract and it was printed on the costume. The audience has slowly filled in the seats, music has started to play, and I started to walk towards the audience. "Hey! You can do this! You look great! The audience is staring at you cause they admire you! YOU ARE ROCKING THE STAGE EVE!" You know what? I was really satisfied with my first catwalk on the runway. It wasn't perfect but I was happy because I have given the best that I could!
By being involved in this event, I have learned 5 things:
1. To love yourself and be confident.
You won't be able to feel confident and grateful if you don't even love yourself. This may appear repeatedly everywhere, but I just wanna remind you again that: EVERYONE IS UNIQUE. YOU HAVE SOMETHING THAT OTHERS DON'T HAVE. If you still don't know, you have to find it. For me, it's my interpersonal skills. I have found it and I want to develop it by inspiring and motivating people.
2. Acknowledge that every opportunity gives at least a lesson to be learned.
I could say that I am an adventurous girl. I like to learn new things and this what pushes me to take as many as opportunities offered in Singapore. Know that you will eventually learn at least one thing from every opportunity that you take. This would be the first step for you to learn from your mistakes. Always think "I am here not by a coincidence, but I am here for a reason."
3. Practice makes perfect.
This is what I really learned from being involved in the fashion show. Don't ever think that you are perfect! There will always be time for you to practice and to perform better!
4. Good communication skills will broaden your relations and connections.
Communication is really important. I bet you know it. If you challenge yourself to different opportunities, you will find your workplace should be a place for you to #HAVEFUN! The Hive was the place where I had fun and work with new people!
Long story short, during the pre-show, Jesslyn didn't feel confident with my makeup look. She was afraid that the result wouldn't be the same as what they expected. However, I was there not just to walk. I motivated her while saying that she was doing great. You know what happened? She did the best makeup look for my group from the same designer. Shockingly, we become good friends because she knew I was the only one who motivated and trusted her.
5. Willingness to learn
As an undergraduate student or for someone who is just about to join the workplace, this would be the most important thing for you to do. Our experiences and skills might not be sufficient for the company, but at least we can show our willingness to learn. Companies seek people who are enthusiastic, willing to learn, and interested in helping the company.
